How To Fix Car Amp That Starts Smoking

If you appear to notice that your car amplifier starts smoking randomly during while powering on, it shows there is a technical related problem. Now its hard to say exactly what could be the potential cause without having a look at it and proceeding with any kind of troubleshooting. If you notice that your car amp is smoking but it still works then its showing you a sign that its going overheat and pass out eventually its just the matter of when it will happen. So its best to avoid that situation to see if you can fix it to stop your car amp from smoking out and shutting down on you. If none of the steps help you solve this its because you probably wired up the amp incorrectly previously when installing it. Since if you have in the past there are high chances that you have damaged the transformers in the amp. So if that is the case then you will have to replace the amp or get it repaired by a techy.

1) Bad Ground. If its not making good electrical contact with the cars chassis then some amps will start to smoke. The best way is to sand down the area, file it down to bear metal then mount the wire terminal onto it.

2) Loose or shorting out connections. Check with a screwdriver that all the wires that are inserted in securely in place with the mounting screw on each terminal forced down. Also ensure that the speaker wires are not shorting out with each other as this is also just an important.

3) Incorrect size wiring kit. Some people assume that all this contains is a few long pieces of wire with a fuse holder on it and the amp will work. You will need to take into consideration the factors such as the wire gauge. This is a technical term to describe how many copper strands are inside the wire. The thicker the better, but you will always need to ensure that you match it with what your amp requires. The best way to find out is to check in the user specification manual, at the back of it will say the wattage and the wiring size of the kit you need for example 8, 4 or 0 gauge.
