How To Stop a Dog Barking Using Car Tweeters

Now dogs are adorable pets to keep, like they say they are a mans best friend. Funny enough when your local neighbours keep them outside, you could be experiencing constant barking sounds in the garden. This can possible disturb your sleep because of the noise that can interrupt you in bed. The best thing would be to speak to the dog owner directly, as they might not be aware that the noise is affecting you. Since the owner would be used to the barking all day, if still no luck like they don't have no care in the world, welcome to the tricks of car audio. What you can do is build your own anti barking device using a cheap ebay ultrasonic piezo tweeter. The high frequency pitched noise will cause the dogs to stop barking and go inside the house. Things you will need to make it:

Speaker wire

A cheap ebay piezo tweeter

A cone or plastic pipe of some sort.

Amplifier

CD or MP3 Player

1) Attach the piezo tweeter to the small side of the cone. The shape of the cone will amply the sound, it will also make it blended in if you just dump it outside on the floor in your garden with some rubbish. This means nobody will now about the device and you can control it from your sofa and watch the dogs using your window. To hold the tweeter in place, plastic insulation PVC cellotape or hot glue would be your best bet to ensure a good secure mount.

2) Solder on the speaker wire onto the terminals found on the tweeter. Then attach a long wire that can extend the length of your garden near the dogs into the back of the amplifier. You can run a home audio amp HIFI stack style or setup a car amplifier on a computer power supply. Anything as long as it can provide the rms power the tweeter can handle. Since this DIY dog barking device is far more effective when the spl levels are increased.

3) Now that you have got your diy anti barking device setup, all you need to do is play a 25,000 HZ test tone. This is ultrasonic that us humans can't pick up because we can only hear upto 20,000, the older we are the more this drops off. So your neighbours will not be able to hear this sound, only the dogs will be able to react. Go on youtube and find a 25,000 HZ sound clip and covert it into a mp3 filter using a free youtubetomp3 video converter online using Google. Place the mp3 file onto a cd or mp3 player and connect it inline as the input audio for your amplifier.

4) Test out the DIY anti dog barking device on low volumes to make sure that everything works fine for the big day. As soon as you hear the annoying dogs in your neighbours back garden, its time to see what the homemade ultrasonic dog repeller can do. Hit the play button and crank up the volume really high.
