How To Fix Loose Faceplate on Car Stereo

The faceplate plate needs to connect onto the front of the car stereo for it to work. Behind it there are metal pins that connect with the other half when pressed down. If you have a loose faceplate, you might get problems with the buttons or the screen keeps going blank every time. The plastic that holds the front faceplate in can wear out after years of use. If you have having this problem, a new faceplate may not solve the problem. The best way you can fix this is by blutack to stick the faceplate on more securely when you push it down.

1) Power off the car stereo.

2) Remove the faceplate from the radio.

3) Clean the gold connectors on the back using a tissue. Just to ensure that you don’t have connections problems in the future.

4) On the back of the faceplate, place a small blob of blutack onto each four corner.

5) Place the faceplate back onto the car stereo. Push it down a few times, it will now be extra secured from movement now. Keep the blutack in the glovebox in case you need it again.

This cheap repair method should hopefully get your car stereo working again. We have tried this on a few old school Sony headunits and they work once again. Best thing about this there is no actual glue involved so you don't permanently damage your hardware and you can still remove the faceplate if you required when not in your car.
