If you have picked up a used car amplifier for a good price or have discovered that you have one rotting away in your basement and it works, you can refurbish it at home yourself. You need to be careful what you use to clean the surface of the car amp itself. Remember do not use water because electronics don't mix with and it, as it can find its way into the sides of the heatsink and into the mosfet transistors. When we purchase used car amplifiers at the shop for trade ins, we always use this cleaning process to make them look brand new condition for the customer.

1) Unplug all of the cables from the amp. This including the power, ground, remote, rca leads and speaker wires.

2) Place your car amplifier onto a work bench. If you are using a table, place a soft towel underneath it to prevent it scratching the wooden surface.

3) Now you are ready to clean the car amp. Start of by using a toothbrush to brush of any dust or dirt trapped inside the heatsinks or side air vents. This can cause overheating issues and doesn't just come off with a wipe.

4) Once you have done that, you are now ready to clean the actual surface of the amp. Get hold of some dashboard cleaner and spray an even amount across the surface.

5) Gently rub it in using circular motions to work in the polish so that you can no longer see it.

6) Use a dry cloth of the same kind used earlier on to remove any remains of the car dashboard polish from the car amp.

Cleaning your car amp is essential to do. It makes it look brand new and provides a nice finish when you pop the trunk and display your system to your friends. Not only that, it also helps minimise overheating if there is any dirt clogged up inside the vents and fins on the heatsink.
