If your car speakers are only playing bass and no vocals are coming out of your speakers, its most likely a crossover issue. The speakers are fine and are not blown since they work perfectly fine as sound is coming out of them. On your car stereo or amplifier, you will have an option to turn off the low pass filter. When this is switched on, it basically stops the vocals going to your car speakers, so your car speakers only play bass. It acts as a filter, playing anything below 80HZ and cutting of frequencies that are higher than that. There are a lot of people also saying that only bass comes from there rear car speakers with using a Pioneer car stereo. This is because the rear channels are probably bridged to drive a small subwoofer, this feature is called direct sub drive. All you need to do is turn off the subwoofer setting for the rear channels in the audio option.
To stop bass coming from your rear car speakers,
you will need to turn off the LPF in most cases. This can be done from the car
stereo or the car amplifier.
From the front end:
1) Go into the 'Sound/Audio' settings in your car
stereo.
2) Turn off the LPF.
3) If you want only vocals to be coming through
your car speakers turn on the HPF to 80HZ.
From the back end:
1) Look on your car amp for a switch that says
'Crossover'. It should have three options, LPF, HPF and full range.
2) Turn the switch into HPF mode. If your car amp
has an adjustable high pass filter set it to around 80HZ. If you want both bass
and treble coming from your car speakers, then set it to full range. You might
notice more distortion at high volume levels if you do so.
So thats all there is to fixing car speakers that
only play bass. Its never a fault with the speakers or the cd player its
usually a setting issue. Some people like bass coming from the speakers on the
rear and vocals from the front to give that subwoofer experience without
installing an external amplifier. This is common with car audio enthusiasts
that install 6x9 speakers into the rear parcel shelf, since they have good
potential to create big bass without taking any space. This is simply due to
having large cone area compared to normal 6.5 speaker in your doors.
