A car amplifier is used to provide that extra power to make a subwoofer move enough air to create bass. If your car amp has power, but there is no sound coming from the subwoofer the sub won’t play any bass. There are many problems that can cause this anything from bad rca cable to the subwoofer control on the stereo turned all the way down. Most people would assume that if the subwoofer is not playing even though the car amp is powered on, the amp is faulty or blown. Most of the time it is a very simply fix something like a loose cable. This guide has been created my our independent car audio specialists to fix your amp that has power but there is no sound coming from your subwoofer.
1) Check the subwoofer control on the headunit. If your car stereo is aftermarket such as a pioneer, JVC or kenwood then it will have a separate subwoofer control in the settings. Sometimes this can get turned off or set really low causing the sub to not play when the amp is on. Check your settings and make sure its turned on and the DB levels are set more than 0.
2) Check the speaker wire. It can become
disconnected if not secured properly into the amp or the screw terminals on the
box by the previous installer. Loose connections are prone to causing a sub not
to work.
3) Gain. This is an adjustable point on the car
amp that matches the voltage that is coming from the stereo to minimize
distortion or clipping. Sometimes when tuning your car amps settings for best
sound, you could have turned this all the way down.
4) RCA cables. These are what provide the car amp
with a music signal from the cd player. If they are plugged into the wrong RCA
plugs into the amp or on the back of the car stereo it can cause the amp to not
play.
So thats all there is to fixing your car amp that
has power but no sound coming from your car subs or speakers. Most of the time
its a simple fix that you can sort out at home if you have some spare time
rather than going to your local car audio store to save you some bucks.
