How To Make a Car Amplifier Less Powerful

The wattage on a car amplifier channel needs to match the power the voice coil can take on a speaker. If your car amplifier is way too powerful, you will overpower your speaker at some point and it will blow up. If you still want to use your powerful car amplifier with a speaker that is not designed to handle the power, you can make it run so that it is less powerful. To test this we have ran a 1000 watts rms amp on a 600 watt rms rated subwoofer and till this day its still working. Our audio technicians at the shop make use of these methods to reduce the power going to the speaker.

1) Increase the Ohm Load. The higher impedance is the less electrical resistance placed on the mosfet transistors inside the amp. For example at 1 ohm the amp for example might push out a 1000 watts, but a 4 ohms it might push around 500. You can wire your speakers in series or parallel to adjust the final load placed on the amp. If you look at the car amp specs in the manual it should tell you what the power rating is at different loads.

2) Lower the gain control. The best way to tune this is to make the car amp less powerful is to keep turning it up and stop when you hear any mechanical noises from the sub infrastructure. Also put your hand over the cone, it you notice its getting warm really quick, that is also another sign telling you to back down the gain a little more.

Make your car look more modern with upgraded Ampoules LED voiture bulbs. Being LED, they will provide much better lighting and also last twice as long in comparison to your usual halogen bulbs. I get my bulbs from Next-tech France, they are really good at providing fast delivery.
