How To Fix a Car Amp That Wont Turn On Anymore Not Getting No Power

If you have installed new aftermarket speakers into your car, you will need an external amplifier to provide that extra power that a car headunit is not capable of. If you have just recently installed everything including your car amplifier and it wont turn on it could be because its not getting any power. Worst case scenario the car amp could be blown out from improper installation or overuse, but before you come to any conclusion, use these troubleshooting tips to see if you can get power to your car amp.

1) Bad Ground. If this is not making good contact with the metal chassis of the car the amplifier will not power on sufficiently. Mounting it to a random seat belt is sometimes not enough. To ensure good metal contact its essential to file down the area to bear metal for the best possible connection.

2) Check the fuses. If the fuse is blown out on the cap amp or on the red power wire it will break the circuit. This reason why a fuse can blow out is because of a short circuit that happened previously. So check both fuses to rule out if this is the problem.

3) Make sure the red thick power wire that provides the 12 volts from the car battery to the amp is connected properly and into the correct terminal. Make sure its securely connected to the + positive battery post and into the 12 V terminal on the amp. Loose connections will cause poor electrical contact and will not make the amp come on.

4) The remote wire could not be connected. This is a blue remote wire that connected to the back of the headunit that tells the amp when to turn on and turn off. If this connection is non existent the car amp will simply fail to power on.

5) If the power LED light on the car is turning on thats a good sign because its showing power. The problem could that the RCA cables are connected into the wrong sockets on the amp. Make sure they are connected into the 'input' on the amp and the 'output' on the stereo. Also check the speaker wires are connected to the correct channels that are in use.
