If you want to control the amount of bass your car subwoofer plays without having to go into the car stereo settings, to make life easier you can install a bass knob. This is a small box that is placed nearby to the drivers side that comes with an adjustable button, allowing you to increase or decrease the bass from your sub. This is a must if you have a really loud car audio system and love giving demos. Since you can use it to slowly turn the bass up and then suprise the person that is getting the bass demo from you. Now there are two types of bass knobs, there is a universal one that connects to any amp through rca signals and the other one that plugs directly into the amp. They both work as well and there is no better than the other. If you are wanting information on how to install a bass knob for a car amp you have come to the right place. You can get a universal bass knob from walmart or best buy, they even sometimes come with a bonus volt meter.
1) Find a suitable place to mount the bass knob. Ideally we personally recommend near the driver side seat or near the dashboard underneath the steering wheel. Since both of these great locations give you great reachability and flexibility, quickly giving you access to turn up and down the subwoofer bass.
2) Now you will fit it. Most will come with predrilled holes and brackets already attached with the bass knob. You can screws it into the dashboard if you want a permanent install, however when it comes to selling your car, having old screw holes in the plastic dash trim will reduce the value slightly. So we recommend to use double side tape. No marks no mess, simply peel away the sticky pad and press down the bass knob onto the place you want to mount it.
3) Now you will have to connect it so that the bass knob can control the bass. Depending on the type, you will either have to connect it directly with one long wire going into the amp, or inline with the RCA connection provided by the car stereo and into the amp. How you would wire this is: the RCA Output on the car stereo will plug into the bass knob and the RCA leads going into the amp will plug into the bass knob. So the sound passes through the bass knob allowing you to adjust how loud you want the bass when you want.
