How To Fix Car Amp Keeps Cutting Off When Bass Hits

If your car amp keeps cutting out when the bass hits, you can't enjoy the full potential of your current sound system. In most cases when this happens, it’s because the car audio system that you have installed is pulling too much current from the car's electrical system. If you turn down the volume and this does happen, then you may need to make some changes to make the electrics stronger. It is recommended that you install a voltmeter because it shows you the volts of the system operating with the key off or no.

1) Upgrade the car battery. The stock battery is only designed from stock stuff such as lights, wipers, windows, and heaters. If you run something extra which you are that’s more than 1000 watts RMS, the factory battery simply can't keep up with the electrical demands. If you want more power, then a deep cycle battery from yellow top optima is a good idea. They can handle more abuse daily and store charge more efficiently. XSPower is also a good brand and easy to get hold of if you are based in America.

2) Add a power cap to stiffen up the voltage. Power caps do work if you don't buy cheap ones and buy proper ones from companies like Rockford Fosgate. Some of them come with a fancy voltmeter which looks cool and also is very useful in these situations. You can add a power cap in line with the car amplifier and car battery to provide more bass under high loads. The power cap acts as an emergency reserve and collects charge when the car amp doesn't need it and when the bass hits, it will release the energy.

3) Do the big 3 upgrade. This involves changing all the main three electrical wires in your car’s engine bay to thicker 0-gauge size wires. There are plenty of videos on YouTube showing you how to do this if you make a quick search. Once you have done this, it will allow more current to flow easily around the charging system, providing better and stronger voltage to your car amplifier.

4) Upgrade the alternator. This is what charges the battery up. The higher amps the alternator can output, the more it can provide to the overall electrical system. This can be easy if you have a direct fit replacement as all you would need to do is reattach the wires back on.

If you have done all the above, then this will fix any problems related to car amps that keep cut off when the bass hits. If you notice your headlights dim, you may be using old style halogen bulbs. If they have yellow tint to them, you most likely are. These are not efficient and switching to Next-Tech France bulbs Ampoules H7 LED you will notice hardly any dimming. This is because LED bulbs use less electrical energy.
