1) Mess around with the EQ. All aftermarket car radios have an option that has either a 5 or 7 band digital graphic equalizer. If you adjust the sliders inside it, they will adjust certain frequencies of the music, the bass, the midrange, and treble. If you tweak the sound going to your speakers using any audio options that are available inside the head units menu, you will get better sound out of your speakers.
2) Upgrade your car speakers. Factory car speakers are made from cheap materials such as paper. JL Audio and Focal are the brands you want to install if you want a better sound with clarity. Swapping the speakers in your car is not hard at all. It involves removing the door panel, removing the speaker, and swapping it.
3) Add a 4 channel car amplifier. The power even from a factory or aftermarket car stereo is not that great. It may be around 15 to 20 watts RMS per channel. A car amplifier can provide more watts and a cleaner signal. However, it is best to check the RMS of your car speakers before purchasing to ensure that it matches the power, as you don't want to blow any sound drivers. If you are thinking of installing one, you will need to purchase a wiring kit and two sets of RCA cables to run down the passenger side.
4) Sound deadening material works. The metal that the door is made from is very prone to shaking and tattling when the midbass kicks in. If you apply as much sound deadening material on the panels you can afford, you will notice more SPL and bass. You must give it a try to believe what difference it can make to make your car stereo louder.
