If you notice that your car stereo won't turn on with the ignition, there is no power going to the radio in the car. There are many different reasons to why your car stereo doesn't turn on or work, this can be anything from an blown fuse to a loose wire. You can't really say what the problem is on how to fixing a car stereo that wont turn on because there could be many different variables involved. This guide has been created by our car audio experts at the shop to explain the reasons why your car stereo wont turn on and ways to fix it. This is more better information than what you get from a normal user guide manual.
1) The faceplate could be loose and not attached on properly if your car stereo wont turn on after a install. If this is the case, the metal pins that make contact with the connectors on the back will not make secure connections. This will result in the car radio not powering on because you would assume so because the screen and lights of the buttons will not be working. So clean the connectors, wipe them down with a clean soft cloth and reattach the front to see if car stereo CD player is now fixed.
2) A blown fuse. If you have no power to the car stereo after a recent battery change, then you will need to check the cars radio fuse inside the fuse box. There is also a second fuse on the car stereo itself which you also might want to check. Remember, if the small wire inside is broken the fuse is damaged and will need replacing with the correct amps. This is because when this happens it will break the circuit, so technically it stops power going into the radio which is why your aftermarket or stock factory car stereo won't turn on.
3) Check the power and ground wires. Remove the car CD player deck from the din slot and check these wires on the wiring harness. Make sure that they are correctly connected to the right wires and use a multimeter to measure that its getting 12 volts when you key the ignition. Insulation tape is not really good because when the headunit creates heat after sometime, the glue of the PVC tape will get soft and it can come off. What you want to do is solder and heatshrink wrap the connections for maximum durability.
