How To Connect Car Stereo Orange Dimmer Wire?

What Does the orange illumination wire do on a Kenwood or Pioneer car stereo?

The orange illumination you are referring to is a good question to ask, we have been getting many customers asking us this. Well today it will be clarified, it is used to control the brightness level of the LED lights used on the front panel of the car stereo. You connect this with your car so when you turn on your dashboard lights on your car at night, the brightness such as the screen and the buttons are dimmed slightly. The orange wire has no impact on how your car radio sounds and will still work without connecting it, the only difference would be the lights will not be controlled running on full power all the time.

Now that i know what the orange illumination wire does on a car stereo, how do i connect it to my car?

1)  Locate the different wires on the wiring harness that plugs into the back of your car headunit. Look for a orange wire with or without white stripes it should be labelled with a small paper attached to it.

2) Find the brown wire that is coming from the cars dashboard din slot. This is the one that is controlled by the cars electrical system that sends out the signal to reduce the brightness on the screen for the CD player.

3) Unstrip insulation of both the orange and brown wires and connect them together. Solder them and use heatshrink tubing to ensure that you have a solid connection.

4) To test if this works, key your cars ignition and switch on the lights. If wired up correctly, you will see the illumination on the car stereo go down.
