How To Fix Sony Car Stereo Only Eject Button Works

If you have a sony xplod car stereo headunit and the buttons on the front faceplate are not working, however the eject button is functional you wont be able to change stations. Some users have also said on forums that the sony car stereo volume knob is not working. All are similar kind of problems that have the same cause which is dirt on the metal contacts. When you click it in place onto the radio, there multiple small metal pins on the back of it that connect to the brain of the CD player. If these are dirty they could potential make poor contact making some of the buttons not work. 1) Turn off the car stereo by taking the key out of the ignition. You don't want to clean it when your Sony Xplod headunit is turned on, as you could potentially blow out a fuse or damaging something in the process.

2) There will be a release button located on the front panel to pop of the faceplate. This will detach it from the actual Sont Xplod car stereo with buttons that are not working.

3) Look at the back of the faceplate. You will see a gold strip of contacts the same goes for the ones found on the front of the actual CD player next to the eject slot. Get a cotton bud, the ones you use for your ears and wipe it gently upwards and downwards. This will remove any prone dust or dirt that could be causing the buttons to not working on your Sony Xplod car stereo.

4) Reattach it back onto the stereo. Test to see if this has fixed the not working buttons on your Sony car stereo. If there is still no look you will want to wipe your sony car stereo to factory settings by doing a quick reset.

1) Power on the car stereo and remove the panel.

2) Near the eject slot there will be a small hole labelled as 'RESET'

3) Get a small pointed tip item and place it into the hole and press it down for a couple of seconds. Once you let go it your Sony car stereo will be reset back to factory settings.

With carrying out a full factory reset on your Sony car stereo, it will wipe all the radio and equalizer presets that are stored onto the internal memory. This can sometimes fix all the buttons on your Sony car stereo because it could be a software problem and not hardware related.
