If you are getting poor FM radio reception problems with your car stereo, you will either get no stations at all or the odd crackling interference coming through your car speakers. How a car stereo works with radio stations is it gets incoming signal from a broadcast tower, this highly depends on the antenna and the wire leading back into the radio. To fix your car stereo that is not receiving stations, its best to start with the basic troubleshooting and work your way down.
1) Remove the car stereo from the dashboard.
2) Check to see if the radio antenna plug is firmly
connected into the back of the cd player.
3) If it looks fine then check if the antenna plug
is contacting the conductor and the outer metal part. This is essential because
these two points need to make direct contact with the socket on the
radio.
4) Unscrew the connector attached onto the radio
wire and check to see if the wire is soldered onto properly inside it. Loose
connections that are broken off or have been just twisted in with cause your
car radio to pick up poor FM radio reception.
5) The last check is to see if the radio aerial is
probably grounded with to the chassis of the actual car itself. It must make
clean direct contact with the cars metal, no paint or rust as this can cause a
poor ground.
Fixing a car stereo that is not receiving stations
can be tricky. Sometimes its hard to pin point what is causing the problem. If
your car radio is still not receiving stations, then we recommend that you try
a different aerial and plug it directly into your car. Sometimes the aerials
can get water damaged due to strong weather conditions such as heavy rain and
storms.
