How To Make Car Radio Stereo Antenna Work Better For Best Reception

If you are listening frequently to the radio function on your car stereo when on the go for quick travel updates or flick through the new trending songs, you need good reception to get the best of the sound quality and reduce any static interference noises. Now getting the best possible reception for your car radio all depends on how good the antenna is setup. This is the most important part that impacts how good the quality of the radio station sounds as the transmitters that sends the music through your car speakers comes down the aerial. If its in poor condition due to bad weather conditions or improperly installed to the chassis of the vehicle then it will reduce its performance capability.

Now these days what you can do is install a cheap signal booster amp inline with the headunit and the antenna. This will help make the signal stronger because it amplifies the incoming waves. Its totally legal to have one of these installed into your car and its always recommended to our customers that come into our car audio shop that have weak signal problems with there car radio. But before you consider spending additional money on this, ensure that the connections such as the antenna wire cable is not worn or corroded from both ends.

Now in terms of finding the best car radio booster out there on the market, the higher the DB rating it can pick up, the more strong the signal will be. Thats the general rule that our technicans follow when finding the perfect unit for the customers type of installation and the distance between the local radio masts. Either way it will make some sort of noticeable improvement for both FM and AM frequency bands.

1) The signal booster box will need to have constant power connected to it from a 12 volt source in order for the amplifier circuit to work and be active. Most come with a red wire with an inline fuse, you can connect this to the same red wire the radio gets 12 volts from.

2) Now that power is going into it, you will need to connect the antenna plug into the socket found from the wire coming out of the booster box. It should just click into place when pushed down.

3) The last connection is to connect the antenna plug from the booster box into the socket found at the back of your car stereo near the wiring harness plug. Once you have done this you are all setup and ready to go with increased radio reception.

  1. Hi.
I am willing to know if I can connect two powered/amplified antennas to a car head
unit with an Y adapter at the same time.

One of the antennas is a boosted one that sticks to the windshield and the other one is the car's stock antenna which is also amplified (also has it's 12v connection), I want to try if I can increase the reception quality by adding the windshield antenna. May this harm the head unit? That is what I am really afraid of and want to confirm there's no risk at connecting both at the same time first. Thank you very much for your advise!
