How To Connect MP3 Player To Car Stereo Without Aux Port

If your car stereo is a bit outdated, chances are that it comes without a built in aux. Basically having an aux allows any input signal from a portable device such as an mp3 player, ipod, iphone, ipad, tablet or smartphone to be processed into the internal dac. Now having no aux means you are limited to connecting your mp3 player. However, there are many different alternatives to connecting your mp3 player and keeping the factory or existing radio. What you can use is a FM transmitter device that plugs into the cigarette lighter. How this works is you plug your mp3 player into this device and it will transmit your music on a radio frequency that gets picked up your car stereo. Now the sound quality will not be the best without using a direct aux port, but it will be listenable on a basic car audio system. Also you have the option to try out the cassette adapter if your radio is really old and uses a tape deck.

Connecting using a FM modulator with auxiliary input:

1) Plug in the FM transmitter device into the 12 volt cig socket. This will allow it to power on and provide constant playback when the ignition is on.

2) Get an aux cable and connect one end into the headphone socket on the mp3 player and the other end into the FM transmitter.

3) Power on the FM transmitter. Press play on the portable music player and adjust the volume.

4) Go back to your car stereo and search for radio frequencies, it should automatically pick up the station that you have created locally in your vehicle.

Connecting using a cassette adapter kit.

1) Insert the cassette adapter into the tape deck and press play on the stereo.

2) Connect the 3.5mm jack from the adapter into your mp3 player.

3) Now that you have made the connections between both devices, you can control the music from the portable music player itself.
