How To Fix Car Stereo USB Not Working or Not Supported Problem

If your car stereo has USB ports, this will allow you to play your favourite music from an USB flash drive. You can download and store your favourite music files and copy them over to your USB memory stick and insert it into the USB port on your car stereo. Most car stereos will support the mp3 music playback format as this is common in the car audio world.

MP3 provides good quality of upto 320 KBPS and good compression file size, allowing you to store thousands of songs on an 32 or 64 GB USB stick. Some car radios also support higher quality file formats such as flac or wav. Please refer to your user manual to find out more information. To format your memory, stick all data will be deleted from it. If you have important music files on there, you may want to make a backup. Simple copy and paste the music folder onto your desktop, you can always copy it back onto the root of the USB memory stick later. 

Plug your USB into any free USB port on your computer. Give it a couple of seconds for the computer to recognise it. It may say installing drivers if it’s the first time using it with a device. Go into my computer and select the USB drive. 

Once you selected the USB drive, right click using the mouse, a drop-down box menu will appear. Simply click on ‘Format’. This will then bring an internal program up within windows, which will allow you to format your USB stick to make it work with your car stereo.

Change the 'file system' option to 'FAT32'. This is because this is the correct file format for car stereos to read music from an USB drive. Click the 'Quick Format' option as this is the quickest. Click 'Start' at the bottom, this will start the formatting process, it can take up to 1 minute for it to be completed. Once the formatting has been completed on your USB drive, then you can copy your music files onto it.
