How To Fix Car Stereo Works But No Lights Problem

A car stereo controls the audio entertainment in your car. If you notice that your car stereo works but no lights on the buttons or the screen is blank, the problem is with the faceplate connecting to the stereo. There are metal connectors on the back that press against the other set of metal contacts on the actual car stereo. When you press down the panel, these both connect with each other and allow the front panel to light up. If the buttons and functions of your car stereo is working fine, but the lights on the buttons is not on, then start with a reset. Most car stereos, if you remove the panel you will see a small hole that says reset. You push the pin inside the hole while the cars ignition is on and it will reset it to factory settings. Put the front panel back on to see if its made any difference in terms of the lights or screen coming back on.

If resetting your car stereo makes no difference for the lights to come back on your car stereo, then try clean the metal contacts on the back of the front panel. These can become dirty and sometimes a quick clean can make the buttons and screen on your car stereo work again. Its something you should try before considering replacing the car stereo if the reset didn't fix the problem.

1)  Unclip the front panel for the car stereo. On some they might be a release button that you can press to detach it off.

2) Once you have removed the front panel, turn it around you will see a set of metal contact contacts.

3) Get a cotton bud with a dab of water on it and clean the contacts. Once you have done that get a tissue to remove the water. This will give it a clean.

4) Attach the faceplate back on the car stereo. Power it on, the car stereo should work as normally but this time with the screen and lights on.
