If your car stereo has power but
there is no sound coming from your car speakers, chances are there is a short
on the speakers. This can either be a wire touching on the back of the car
stereo or the wires that plug into the actual speaker itself. The best way to
fix a car stereo that has lights but no sound coming from the speakers is to
disconnect each speaker to see if you get sound. Sometimes what can also happen
is the speaker magnet can touch the back of the door. This can cause the voice
coil to short out because the bottom of the speaker acts as a ground for the
cars chassis. In most cases its very rear to see a car stereo have a faulty
mosfets transistors since they are very low powered and are designed not to
overheat under any kind of circumstances due to high efficiency.
If you are using an external
amplifier to power your car door speakers, there are many other things that can
go wrong. The leads that plug into the RCA outputs can become shorted or
disconnected. The gain on the amp might be accidently turned down. The amp
could also not be powering on, the fuse could be blown or the ground could be
weak. It could even be a bad connection on the remote wire terminal that can
cause the amp to not power on even though you have connected everything that
comes supplied with a wire kit for your amplifier. But this article is designed
specifically dedicated to fixing a car stereo with no sound, so we have gone
into more detail on that. There will be an upcoming article in regards to the
amp sides of things later on during this week.
Car stereo troubleshooting can be
tricky and confusing without the correct set of instructions to help you fix
your car stereo that has power but no sound from the speakers. There are many
different variables involved, but we have broken them down for you to make it
easier for the average guy to understand that’s not so literate into the car

Check for shorts leading to the
wiring harness.
This plugs into the back of the
car stereo and provides power and sound to your speakers. There are many
different wires that provided different functions. You will need to remove the
car stereo from the dashboard using din tools. Inspect the wiring on the back,
if it looks well securely taped off the speaker wires connected to each
channel, then disconnect each speaker wire individually. If you notice that
sound comes from the other speakers when you disconnect the speaker wire, you
have found the problem.
The problem is either with the
speaker being faulty, voice coil damaged or the back of the speaker is touching
the door. This can cause a short either way you will need to replace the
speaker. Usually you can find one speaker to fit into the door of the same kind
if it’s a factory system. If you have a problem with an aftermarket speaker, it
will be hard finding a replacement and you will probably have to buy them in
pairs.
