A car amplifier takes signal from your car stereo (music) and then makes it more powerful then plays that sound to an connect subwoofer. A subwoofer itself is a critical component in a car audio system that is responsible to provide that low-end deep bass to make your overall car audio system sound complete. That low end thunder you hear from the car coming down the street, that is the sound of a car subwoofer installed into the trunk.
If you have recently fitted a car amplifier into your car and are not getting any sound coming from it, you need to first determine if it’s getting power. If the 'Power' Led is on, then the car amplifier is powered on and it is getting power. If there is no power, there is the answer to your problem. Please check the power 12 volt wire is correct firmly to the car battery positive terminal and the fuse holder has an working fuse in it. The blue remote wire should be connected to an on and off source, this can be connected directly to the blue remote wire found on the back of an aftermarket stereo, it can also be connected to ignition live fuse, found in the fuse box via a fuse tap. The ground wire should be connected to a solid ground that has the paint removed underneath it to ensure a good solid connection at all times. Also make sure the amp itself, if it has a fuse holder has a working fuse thats not already burned out. If the car amplifier doesn’t power on still, then it is probably faulty and needs replacing.
Sometimes, by mistake the ‘Gain’ control on the car amplifier can also be turned down completed. This is known as a subwoofer volume control to most, but in fact it is used to match the voltage come down the RCA cables from the headunit to match the amplifier. This is then tweaked with a flat head screwdriver to prevent distortion. Double check the gain setting on your car amplifier. Also, to discuss, the low pass filter should be switch on to ensure the subwoofer only plays the bass and ideally should be set up around 80HZ for maximum sound quality and deep bass that you can feel.
If your car amp has power but no sound coming from the car subwoofer, then ensure that the RCA cables are connected correctly and from the 'Output' from the rear of the headunit or RCA converter if you are using a factory radio to the 'INPUT RCA' on the car amplifier. Sometimes the RCA cable can be connected the wrong way and can prevent the car amplifier receiving a sound signal. Your RCA cables could be bad. Your connections from the car amplifier to the subwoofer could be bad. Have you connected the speaker wire to the (-) and (+) terminal on your car amplifier to the channel, the same channel you plugged your RCA cables into, that you are using to the speaker terminal cup securely? If the connections look good on the outside, the speaker wire going inside the box to the speaker voice coil magnet and speaker terminal cup may have become loose or disconnected. Remove the subwoofer from the speaker box enclosure and recheck the connections, chances are the speaker is not even connected inside the box. I have seen this happen with second hand speaker and sellers tend to sell them on ebay for cheap.
