Does a Bigger Wattage Amp Make My Car Subwoofer Louder?

Question: I have a new car subwoofer fitted into my car and i have seen some bigger more powerful amps at the local Halfords. Now i want more deep and louder bass from my subwoofer, so would a bigger wattage amp make my car subwoofer louder?

Answer: Yes, generally the more power you are running to the sub the more louder its going to play its a true fact that we have discovered from our installation experience for the last 10 years. However, it will only make a difference if you are currently underpowering your sub. Let say for example your sub is 1000 watts rms, you have a small amp connected that is 500 watts rms, then connecting a bigger wattage amp rated exactly around 1000 watt rms will make a noticeable difference to your ear. But when upgrading to a bigger wattage amp, you will need to also upgrade the power and ground cables to a thicker gauge to ensure it receives maximum current flow from the car battery.
