How To Setup Subsonic Rumble Filter On Car Amp

turn on subsonic filter sealed box on car amp

If you have placed your subwoofer speaker driver into an vented ported style box, you may want to turn on the subsonic filter. This will stop really deep low bass frequencies being sent from the amp to the speaker if your box is tuned to high. If you don't turn on the subsonic filter, you could damaged your subwoofer in the long term at high volume levels. But its depends on your install whether or not it is a required feature.

Should i use a subsonic filter?

If you have a ported box tuned to 30 HZ or below you dont need the subsonic filter on. This is because the subwoofer can play them really low frequencies and not free air. If the tuning is high around 40 HZ or higher, the box is geared towards more upper bass and the speaker will get damaged if anything really low plays. Also you don't need a subsonic filter on a sealed type of box, this why they have a flat frequency response curve.

1) Find your car amp.

2) Look on the sides or the top for a flickable switch labelled as 'Subsonic Filter'.

3) Flick it into the 'On' Position. There might also be a turnable dial which you can adjust with a flat head screwdriver controlling the frequency point of when to cut off the low bass.
