If your car amp is overheating and getting into protect mode recently its because the internal mosfet transistors are getting too hot to operate. The protect circuit senses that the temperature is too high for normal use and shuts itself down to stop them from blowing out. There are many different ways that you can consider to keep your car amp cool and stop it from overheating. We have had lots of car amp that are booked in for repair all because of overheating and the user not using the correct cooling or air ventilation. If you want to keep your car amplifier running cool and prolong its lifespan then consider the following in the car amp cool guide we have created for you.
1) Make your own amp cooling kit out of old
computer fans. You can connect computer fans inline with the car amp 12 volts
connections to blow cold air onto the metal parts of the car amp. This will
keep the metal heatsink cool when you listen to loud music consistently.
2) Ensure lots of air ventilation. Don't stuff
the car amp underneath the seat or in the glovebox. The best place is screwed
onto the back of the rear seats or on the of the subwoofer enclosure box. Since
it will allow no obstructions that could possibly block air flow getting around
the amp. We have seen car amps covered it all sorts of rubbish in the boot such
as coats and jumpers. So please make sure that there is nothing covering the
car amp up to keep it running cool all the time and prevent it going into
protect mode.
3) Tune the gain accordingly. Don’t just turn it
all the way up, tune it the proper way to minimise hearing distortion in your
music. If your car amp is clipping or distorting, then it will create more heat
inside the car amp because it is working extra hard to provide power that it can’t
provide. Tune the gain by slowing increasing it upwards and stop until you hear
a reduction in the amount of sound quality in your music.
Keeping your car amp cool is essential if you
want it to last. Excessive heat damage car amps and its only when people find
out when it doesn't play. If your car amp is going into protect because of
overheating its telling you to look into the car audio problem and troubleshoot
it. Warm weather in hot countries can also play a role in making your car amp
overheat, but you can keep your trunk cool by using computer fans.
