Car tweeters are used in a car audio system to provide the sound in the high frequency range. If used right, they can make a nice enhancement to your music. If used in properly, they can cause harsh ear piercing treble that can damage your ears in the long term. Tweeters are very sensitive components and hardly require much power to work due to their small diaphragm area. Crackling from your car tweeters speakers can cause problems that can results in a blown voice coil. There are many reasons why your car tweeters are crackling. This guide has been developed to help you fix your car tweeters crackling starting with the very basics. If you still have any further enquires if your cracking tweeters are not fixed, then please let us know.
1) Distorting. This basically means the audio
signal sent to the tweeter is not clean. This can result in distortion to be heard
at high volumes, making your car tweeters crackle at high volume levels. Make
sure you adjust the equalizer on the car stereo and turn adjust the gain until
the crackle stops.
2) Crossover. This needs to be setup on the
tweeter amp and car stereo. Turn on the high pass filter (HPF) and set it to
80HZ. Tweeters usually crackle because bass is being sent to them, due to their
nature of design they can't play bass so the voice coil starts to crackle. This
is why tweeters have a small capacitor connected to them or a separate
crosserover box with the mid-range speaker to filter out bass and only allow it
to play vocals.
3) Overpowered. You might be sending more power
to the tweeter than it can handle. Tweeters don't need lots of power to work.
Make sure the rms of the tweeters is the same or almost what the amp you are
using can output. If its way to powerful, turn down the gain setting to half to
reduce the amount of signal that is being sent to the tweeter. This will detune
the car amplifier output so that it doesn't overpower the tweeter.
Fixing your crackling car tweeters is relatively
easy to do so with the right set of instructions. If you have completed the
above troubleshooting and your tweeters are still crackling, then they are most
likely blown. This can happen due to previous improper use and long term
damaged has occurred. Just remember to set them up right the first time so they
don't cause problems later on.
