In this car audio article, we are going to help you troubleshoot how to fix front car speakers only playing one side of the car. If only one speaker works in my car, the first thing that will come into my mind is to check the balance settings on the stereo. Sometimes, children can be messing about with your car stereo or you could have accidentally turned down one side of your car. This will result in the car speakers only playing on one side. You will find the balance settings under the sound or audio option in your car stereo, both factory and aftermarket it shouldn’t be hard to find at all. Once you have found it, you will notice it will say left and right and there will be a button that you can move up or down to control the sound from left to right. If music is only coming out of one speaker in the car, chances are that this will be set to one side more than the other. What you want to do is place the balance control in the middle, so that both speakers in your car play the sound equally.
If you notice that the driver-side speakers not working still in your car and you have checked the balance setting, then you may require to look into this further. It could be the actual speaker that is not working, it could have become faulty due to overuse. This tends to happen with factory speakers when you listen to your music loud with lots of bass. The factory car speakers are made out of cheap plastic and paper cone and give up after a couple of years of hard use. I would recommend that you remove the one speaker not working the car that is quiet on the one side. Test this on the other working side of the door, attaching the speaker terminals from the side that has no problems. If the sound is coming out of the quiet on one side door, then the speaker is fine. If no sound comes out of it when testing it on a working side, then the driver side speaker is not working due to being faulty. I suggest going on eBay to find a replacement OEM speaker from a salvage car or treat yourself to a set of high-quality aftermarket speakers if you have got the money.
If you have identified that there is nothing wrong with both car speakers in the front, the side where music is only coming out of one speaker in the car is the problem. The wire that connects the speaker to the car stereo is most likely damaged and shorting out in the door hinge. This is normal and it can happen when you close and open the door, overtime the wires can snap and break. If it’s the front right speaker that is not working, the colors on the wiring harness will be grey and for the front left speaker the color of the wires will be white. What you will need to do to resolve this problem is to run brand new speaker wire 16 gauge should be fine from the not working side into the not working front speaker channel found on your car headunit.
