How To Make Car Speakers Sound Like Subwoofers

If you have installed a decent set of car speakers into the doors of your vehicle, you are wanting the subwoofer kind of bass, there are many things that you can do to help make your car speakers sound just like a subwoofer. Now the biggest sized car speakers you can get are 6.5 inch, these are the best for bass because of their large cone area, its also the same scenario with 6X9 car speakers that are installed in the back parcel shelf. If you have got a family and kids to potter about with on a daily basis, you can totally forget about installing a nice large subwoofer. This is because it will literally take all the trunk space up, which is not ideal and you are a proper basshead seeking some thump to your ears. Well i was in a similar situation, until i got my weekend car, but for my daily driver here are the best ways that i would suggest if you want to make your car speakers sound like subwoofers.

1) Connect an external amplifier. This will send more power to the voice coils of the speaker. Now most stock and even aftermarket car stereos don't have enough juice to provide the best possible bass. Installing an quality aftermarket car amp with your speakers would be a brilliant idea. But please ensure that the amp matches the rms output of the speakers. You don't want to underpowering or overpowering your speakers as you will not gain optimal performance.

2) Install sound deading material. Out of the factory, there is little to none sound deading placed on both of the doors. A nice thick sheet of dynomat will help dampen the vibrations and reduce rattle emphasising on the amount of bass being heard. This will make it sound more louder, tight and punchy. You may think that its pointless applying some expensive silver sheets, but once you try it out you will realise the amount of sound quality you have being missing out on.

3) Install an aftermarket equalizer. This basically gives you full control of the sound spectrum and allows you to increase the midbass and the subwoofer bass slightly. Now most eqs have a slider that allows you to adjust the bass around the 55-60HZ region for car speakers. This is easily achievable with a set of good sized car speakers and because the frequency is not as deep or low as 30 HZ like a subwoofer it will still be audiible and well enjoyed.

4) Listen to bass boosted music. If you go on YouTube there are many uploaders that have edited normal music and have added more bass to it manually. If you download these songs and burn them to a CD or play directly from YouTube using an aux cable or via bluetooth you will certainly get the rear view mirror shaking. Now the sound quality can vary depending on how clean the bass has been added into the song, but most of the time it sounds decent to most car audio people.
