How To Fix No Bass From Your 6X9 Rear Parcel Shelf Car Speakers

no bass from your 6x9 car speakers

The whole point of installing 6x9 speakers into the back of your car is to add more bass without having the expense of having a large subwoofer in the trunk. Now 6x9 car speakers can provide good levels of bass due to their large cone area, matching to a subwoofer but they need to be setup correctly. If you notice that your newly 6x9 car speakers are not playing enough bass, there are many factors that vary how much bass your car speakers play out.

1) High pass filter too high. This basically is used to block out the treble, so the speakers play vocals but not much bass. Most of the time its turned up too high around 80-120 HZ. This will cut of the bass in lower region stopping that subwoofer bass to be played. Now speakers are not meant to play this low, but with 6x9s you can set it to 40-50hz because they have large cone area.

2) Not enough power. Powering your 6x9 car speakers from the headunit? Bad choice, its ok for the average listener, but not something if you are looking for louder boomy bass. With the right amp, usually around 100 rms watts for 6x9 car speakers it will shake your rear-view mirror. The aftermarket car stereo will only be providing around 25 watt rms, thats if its a good brand which is not enough to make the cone on your 6x9 speakers move.

3) Bass not turned up on eq. All aftermarket car stereos have an option to adjust the bass and treble. The first slider on the equalizer controls the bass, its usually a lower number such as 50 or 60 HZ. What you want to do is keep increasing it and stop until you hear the bass distort. Sometimes the bass is set to low in the eq causing your 6x9 car speakers to not play bass that loud.

Hope these top tips help you increase the bass on your 6x9 car speakers. The only thing more you can do is place them into separate enclosures to enhance the bass. I have seen a good set of JBL 6x9 car speakers powered of a quality amp shake the mirrors in the car and you can feel the bass in your seats.
