How To Install Tweeters Car Audio

In-car audio the front door speakers are the midrange, the tweeters up in the A pillars are the highs and the car subwoofer produces bass in the boot. If a car audio system has no tweeters the vocals won't have much clarity and all you will hear is just overpowering bass from your car subwoofer. There are two types of car speakers. There is coaxial, that have the tweeters already placed inside the speaker, you don't need to add another tweeter. Sometimes adding too many tweeters does provide a more musical experience, however, it can sound harsh to your ears. Component speakers have a separate tweeter and speaker combination, the crossover that is fitted separately handles the different frequencies to the corrected drivers. If you want to install car tweeters into your car audio system, the best thing is to locate them in the factory location unless you want to make holes into the interior trim or door card.

Connecting a car tweeter is very simple, there are just two wires just like a regular car speaker positive and negative. If you are using a supplied crossover that comes with your speakers, you will need to connect the tweeter speaker wires positive and negative to the terminals marked on the crossover. The midrange car speaker terminals will be marker separately, so make sure you don't mix them up. If you do you will be able to tell that the sound is not right anyway, but its best to get it right the first time.

Once you have connected the car tweeter and car speaker to the crossover box, matching positive and negative terminals correctly, then connect the other wires from the car stereo or car amplifier to it. Again, make sure the polarity of the wires is correct because if they are not, then the sound won't be clear and will limit your entire car audio system.

If your car tweeters have no crossover over, then you will need to add a capacitor to the + leg on the tweeter in line with the speaker wire, you don't need to do this on the negative leg. A 3.9 UF rated small electrical cap will do just fine. Make sure it’s this one and don't stick a random one on it because it won't sound right, it might filter too many highs out. Once you have wired up to your car tweeter, attached it to the terminals on the car speaker, match positive and negative together. Done you have connector your car tweeter to your car speaker now.

Now that you have wired your tweeter, play a soundtrack from your car stereo to ensure that it works, then you can move onto installing the tweeters into your car door panel.
