Car tweeters are always installed with a combination of a midrange speaker in the doors to provide a balance between treble and bass. The common locations were tweeters are installed is in the corners of the interior dashboard or just above the door handles. Tweeters are the most delicate component in car audio due to their fragile nature of its musical design. They play the higher end of the frequency spectrum that ranges from 2-20,000 khz. If there is no sound at all coming from both of the front tweeters in your car audio system, you will clearly notice that the bass overpowers the vocals almost instantly. Now there are many possibly issues that can relate to your car tweeter that is not working. So this guide has been helpfully constructed to help you with troubleshooting the installation to find any problems and fix them.
1) Ensure that the fader control on the stereo is setup to provide sound in the middle of the vehicle. Sometimes accidently the sound in the front is faded right to the back, so no sound will be going to the car tweeters fitted into the front.
2) Check for any loose or damaged speaker wiring that connects the tweeter to the crossover and the crossover to the amplifier or car stereo. It could be damaged from copper oxidation from rain or the connector might have come off.
3) If you have connected the crossover for your component speaker to an external amplifier ensure that its powered on. If there is no power to the amp, the car tweeters will not play any music.
4) If one tweeter works, but the other doesn't it could be a faulty tweeter that is blown or dead or in fact the actual crossover box that no longer functions. The best way is to swap over the crossover box first from the other side of the door thats working and test it with the other side of the door with the not working car tweeter. This will help you rule out if the crossover is faulty, if that doesn't resolve things you will need to replace the actual tweeter.
