How To Install Replace & Fit Car Speakers in Front Door

If your car speakers have stopped working or they sound bad, then you will need to install, replace, and fit brand new car speakers. Before purchasing, make sure you purchase the same car speaker size for your door. Do your research on forums on what the factory size speaker location is on your front doors. Most cars that are German such as VW, Audi, Seat use 6.5-inch drivers. BMW cars tend to use smaller car speakers. In terms of buying new car speakers, there are many different ones to choose from, in most cases the higher the price the better the sound quality. JL Audio and Focal make great car speakers if you want high detail and clarity. If you don't have lots of money to spend on brand new replacement car speakers for your front doors, JBL and Infinity are my two favorite brands that sound great for the money and sound better than factory cheap paper cone speakers.

You will also need to identify if you are going to need a replacement coaxial or component speaker. Coaxial speakers have an integrated tweeter placed into the center, this allows you to get the mids and highs from one driver. A component speaker contains a separate tweeter, midrange speaker, and crossover box. This allows for better sound because the sound frequencies are separated from their dedicated drivers. There is also better crossover technology used, as opposed to a capacitor that has been fitted in line with the tweeter to filter out the midrange and only send highs to it.

Once you have your replacement car speakers, even though the size may be the same, you may require fitting plastic adapter rings or kits around the speaker hole on the door. This is so it allows you to fit your aftermarket car speaker into the factory location. Once you got everything you will need, the two main tools you will require is a regular flat and Philips head screwdrivers.

Removing the door card from the door. The best way to do this do your research beforehand. See if you can find a door card removal video of your car on YouTube, also car forums are a good place to start. Watching how to remove the front door card to remove your car speakers is a good idea. This is because you don't want to break the plastic clips behind it.

Once you have located all the screw hole locations on your door card, remove all the screws using the appropriate head screwdriver. Once you have done that, if you place your hand onto the sides of the door card, gradually move your hand up to release the clips. Be careful and gently, the door card will eventually come off, don't use force as this doesn't make the process any easier.

You will see the old car speaker in the corner. Remove all four screws that are holding it down and disconnect the wires. If required, get your new car speaker adapter kit trim ring and screw it down onto the metal frame inside the car door.

If you are using a component speaker, then fit your crossover inside the door and connect your car speaker to it. Also, install and connect the car tweeter and then the two wires coming from the inside of the door card, connect them to the input on the crossover. If you are using a simple coaxial style car speaker, all you must do is connect the positive and negative speaker wires to the terminals on the brand-new replacement car speaker and screw it in.

Once you have fitted everything, power on the car stereo and test if you are getting sound from the replacement front car speaker that you have just fitted. If everything works, then you can go ahead and put the door card back on.
