6X8 is a common size on certain makes of vehicles because its cheaper to produce that a more advanced 6x9 speaker. This can be a problem for some people that want to replace their cheap stock factory paper cone speakers with 6x9 speakers for better bass response and clarity. The only way you can make the fit is to cut out the extra metal that is required to slot in the 6x9 car speaker. There is no such thing as space or adapter to make any kind of 6x9 car speaker fit into 6x8 slot, this is technically not possible regardless (common sense). Its not hard to do, but with a bit of effort and a few hours you can have the perfect fit. You will need a dremel that works with metal as you will need make the hole bigger in the door or rear parcelshelf speakers.
1) Remove the 6x8 speaker from its location and
disconnect the speaker wire.
2) Place the 6X9 Speaker magnet side facing
upwards, and get a felt pen and draw around the inner basket. This will help
you know how far to remove the metal.
3) Plug in your dremel cutter and work your away
around the oval markings that you have made on the door. This may take some
time so don't rush it.
4) Once you have formed the 6x9 car speaker shape,
get some rough grit sandpaper and run down the sharp edges to smooth them out
to give it a professional finish.
5) Attach the speaker terminals to the 6x9 speaker
and drill new holes for screws.
