For the right type of audio components to play the correct type of music, a crossover setting will need to be setup. A crossover overs allows certain frequencies of sound to be blocked and passed. Which types of sounds vary depending on if its a low or high pass crossover. Today, in this article we are going to tell you everything about setting up a crossover on your car subwoofer amp. The main role of setting up a crossover on your car subwoofer is because it optimises it for music, it filters out the unwanted sounds such as vocal and treble and only bass comes out of it. Overall, it cleans up the sound and makes the subwoofer play bass more efficiently. We have seen many car audio systems that have come into the shop that have no crossover settings on the car amp for the sub. So bass and treble is going to the subwoofer installed into the trunk, thinking the customer is going to get louder bass by sending a full range signal to it.
Now if you have a good aftermarket headunit, it
will also have an integrated crossover features. Back in the 1990s this was not
possible from the car stereo and had to be manually done from the car
amplifier. Its best to use either the crossover on the car amp or cd player,
its not advised to use both at the same time by us if you want optimal sound
quality. Instructions for setting up the crossover on your car subwoofer are the same procedure.
1) For the subwoofer you will need to turn on the
LPF, this is the Low Pass Filter.
2) Once turned on adjust it to 80HZ. This will
ensure that the sub takes care of the low deep bass range and keep out unwanted
midrange to high sounds that the car door speakers take care of.
