1) RCA cables. These are the main culprit that
can cause your subwoofer to rumble randomly when there is no music played. If
you are using cheap ebay cables, the wires inside the connector could not be
soldered on correctly. This can cause interference to be heard through the
speakers connected to the car amp. So, try a high-quality cable that has more
thickness because this is usually an indication of better quality shielding. If
its not the cables, there is an issue with either the RCA ports on the car amp
or the back of the headunit. You will need to use a multimeter to check for any
kind of shorts.
2) The gain is set too high. This controls how
much level of input you are giving to your amp. Your speakers might be sensitive
when music is not playing. So, turn down the gain control on your amp to reduce
the rumbling and static.
3) Bad ground. This is the last possibly cause to
having problems with a rumbling subwoofer. Now a bad ground can be anything
from paint or rust that is left remaining on the metal to mount the ground wire
to. The best way to ensure a solid good ground from your car amplifier is to
scrape off any excess paint or similar particles using sandpaper or a file.
This will certainly ensure the best possible connection and minimise any kind of
interference
