There are two types of basshead in the car audio world. Some like deep bass that shakes the door panels and you can feel on the road and others like boomy loud bass that tickles you ears. Its all about what frequencies you want your system to hit. There are a lot of different variables that can impact the way your bass sounds. We will explain today all the different ways you can make your subwoofer play deep bass that rumbles. This has been researched on many forums and advise provided by our own box builders.
1) Ported Box. There are two mains types of enclosure. Sealed
gives you more of a refined tight sound that is for sq guys. Ported gives you a more forceful sound and
the control to tune what frequency you want the sub to play around. For
example, if you love deep low end bass you can tune the subwoofer to 28-30 HZ.
It will get rid of the boomyness and make it into a ground pounding low end
monster.
2) The bigger the sub the more rumble simple. A 15-inch
subwoofer will have more rumble than lets says a 10-inch subwoofer. This is
because it has more cone area which means it can play more low tones. The can also move more air easily.
3) Setup the low pass filter lower. This controls what
frequencies your subwoofer plays and cuts anything above what it plays. Set it around 60 instead of 80 hz which most people do for spl reasons and you will gain
you more end rumble and extension.
4) Bigger the box deeper bass. The larger the internal volume
is inside the box, the more the speaker will play deeper. But remember don’t
have the chamber of your subwoofer box too big or the subwoofer will bottom out on
high volume levels.
