How To Make Car Speakers Have More Bass

Now if you don't want to install a big car subwoofer then you want to consider all the ways possible to squeeze extra bass from your car speakers. If you have fitted either 6.5 inch speakers in the front doors or two 6x9s in the rear parcel shelf, your car audio system has great potential to get a decent amount of bass. Now the first main step is to replace the current cheap paper cone speakers with aftermarket speakers. Stock speakers are poorly made and certainly its not the main focus of the car manufacturer when they are fitted into the system. Good quality speakers such as Focal, JL Audio, Alpine are always fitted for our customers at the car audio shop because they are the best bang for buck. Once you have your aftermarket speakers are installed into your ride, you will need to peform additional enhancements to improve the bass your car speakers produce.

1) Amp up your external car speakers. Now the power that any stereo can provide will never be enough to fulfil the potential of what aftermarket speakers have. The more power you send them, the more louder they will play and because of more cone movement, more air will be pushed creating more bass that you can feel and hear. Now when looking for an aftermarket amp, its always important that you look at the channels and rms power. So lets say you want to drive four speakers, two in the front and two in the rear, then you will need a 4 channel amp. If they are rated at 50 watts rms, then you need an amp that is close enough to that rating for each output. You don't want to overpower or underpower the voice coils, so its essential to get this information right the first time.

2) Add sheets of sound deadening material. Most people forget or don't even think about installing this along with their new aftermarket speakers. This is a very important factor to consider because when the speaker produce sound they vibrate. The vibrations are transferred onto the door panels and made into audioable sounds such as rattles and crackles. Applying a thick sheet of sound deadening onto the doors and other panels of the car that are made from metal will help absorb the impact. This will increase the sound quality of your speakers and make the sound twice as better even if they are cheap and not high quality. You can usually purchase around 16 SQFT for around £45.00 or cheaper if you buy more. Then all you need is a roller to press down the material onto the metal panels, you can use a cheap wallpaper roller from your local DIY shop.

3) Install an parametric equalizer. This will allow you to have full control of the different sound bands and will break them down in more detail. So you will have sliders to adjust bass, mid bass and treble. You can get them in 5 bands or 10 bands, depending on how much fine tuning you want to have of your car audio system. Since you have already going to have an amp, all you need to do is plug in the RCA cables into it for the front and rear channels. Then one RCA connection from the car stereo into the eq to provide an input to it. You can mount it underneath the dashboard near the steering wheel or fit it into a spare din slot in your car.
