How To Properly Ground Car Audio Amplifier For Best Performance

In order for your car audio amplifier to turn on successfully, you will need to mount the ground wire properly to a good surface. In correct grounding can cause an car amplifier to not turn on at all or can create interference such as buzzing or humming sounds to be heard through any types of subwoofers or speakers connected. The best ground is running the ground wire all the way to the car battery. However, most cars have the battery in the front near the engine which is not so convenient unless its in the back. Today you will learn how to properly ground a car audio amplifier for the best sound and performance.

1) Get a nice thick short grounding wire. It should come supplied with your wiring kit. For higher power car audio installs, 0 gauge wire is the best and the thickest.

2) Insert the black ground wire into the ground terminal on the amp and screw it tight.

3) Find an existing bolt underneath the trunks carpet. Now in order to properly ground a car amp, you will need to remove all the paint from the cars metal chassis next to the location that you have just found. This is to get out the bear metal, providing the best possible connection since paint and other coatings act as an insulator.

4) Push the grounding loop terminal onto the bolt and tighten it to secure it in place. Now if you key the ignition the amplifier should turn on.
