Its good to have a car audio test bench if you are buying used headunits or amplifiers. This is because without a test bench, you can't tell if the electronic device is working or not just buy looking at it. You can use a cheap old computer power supply to make a DIY 12 volt test bench at home. For most car stereos, a 300 watt PSU should work fine, however larger big amplifiers that you want to test require a nice juicy 1000 watt power supply unit. Today you will learn how to setup your very own car audio test bench system. Most have a built in cooling fan, so its very unlikely you are going to run into overheating issues, which is also another great feature about this DIY.
1) Cut off all of the yellow and black wires from the plastic connector blocks.
2) Twist all the copper braids for all the small wires for both the yellow and black wires.
3) Cut the green wire from the connector block and connect it to any remaining black wire. This will allow the PSU to think that you are turning on your computer activating it.
4) Plug in the three pin mains leads into the back of the PSU. You can use the flickable switch on the back of the box to turn it on and off. All you need to do now is connect your car audio equipment to it, the yellow wires are positive and the black ones are the ground.
