How To Fix Car Subwoofer That Keeps Blowing Fuses

If you have connected a subwoofer to your car amplifier and it keep blowing fuses, there could be a few things that can be causing this kind of audio related problem. The reason why this happens is usually because the electronic circuit detects that there is a random short somewhere in order to protect the car audio equipment from further damaged so it will blow the fuse. We have at least 3 to 4 customers come into the car audio shop all the time with the this common car subwoofer blowing fuses problem. These are the troubleshooting solutions our tech guys use to help find the problem and fix it. So they have been put on hear to help you pinpoint it individually at home.

1) Wires could be shorting out. Check the power and ground wires that are connected to the car amp. They could be coming in contact with each other, ensure that they are securely away from each other and are tightly fitted into the metal terminals in the amp.

2) The fuse could be too small. If you notice that your car amp only blows fuses on high volumes, then this is most likely the exact problem. This is because it pulls more amps at higher volumes on the headunit. Too low the fuse will blow and too high the fuse will not protect anything. You will need to ensure that it matches what the manufacturer recommends based on the specs that have been provided in the user handbook manual.

3) Insufficient Wiring kit. The amp power and ground wires could be possibly too small to pull all the amps your car amplifier demands. For example, a 1000 watt amp hooked up using a 500 watt wiring kit will not work so well. This is because the wire gauge size will be smaller, so less conductivity can travel through the wires and into what is required by the amp. Match the watts of the car amp and the wiring kit together when making the purchase.
