How To Hook Up a Volt Meter Reader To See Voltage Drop For Car Audio Bass System

You can add a digital volt meter reader display into your car audio system to see the exact amount of volts the electrical system is running at. This will allow you to more easily indicate when your car audio system suffers from voltage drops. Two makes to look out for are Xscorpion and Stinger if you are on a budget. If you want the most accurate volt meter money can buy that also looks cool at the same time, steve meade designs has created the SMD VM1. Once you have purchased your preferred volt meter, you now will need to install it correctly into your ride. Now there are many ways you can connect it, but its ideal if you connect it to the car amplifier as it will provide more accurate readings to be displayed.

1) Find your ideal mounting location. Most people would place it near there headunit. Use double sided tape to secure it in place, as using screws would leave permanently holes.

2) Remove the negative lead from the car battery to prevent any electrical shorts from happening.

3) Most volt meters have three wires on the back, power, ground and turn on. Simply connect the red wire into the 12 volt terminal on the car amp.

4) Connect the thin ground wire into the ground terminal on the car amp. You also want to connect the turn on lead into the remote turn on terminal were the blue wires goes from the headunit. This will allow the volt meter to turn off and on with the keys ignition.

5) Now all you need to do is calibrate the volt meter. There is a small adjustable screw behind the plastic cover when you remove it. This is used to match the voltage read by a connected external Digital Multimeter with the car audio volt meter you have just fitted to ensure readings are accurate as possible.
