How To Install & Replace Car Amp Fuse

A fuse is placed inline with the red coloured power wire to protect the car amplifier from any shorts or jumps in the voltage. The role of the fuse is to blow up if there is too much current passing down the wire. If your car audio system has stopped working, the first thing that you should consider looking at is the fuse. You can tell if the fuse is blown out by looking in the middle, if the small thin metal wire is snapped in half it needs replacing. Before installing a replacement fuse, you should always ensure that the size of the fuse of the car amp matches how many watts you are going to be pulling down the power wire. There are many accurate online car amp fuse calculators to help you with this. This is very important because if its too less or too high the fuse will not protect anything if something does go wrong at one point. Once you have the correct fuse, you will need to remove the current one and install the brand new replacement.

1) Turn off the car engine, pop the hood and remove the power wire from the car battery.

2) Locate the fuse holder, it should be nearer to the car battery.

3) Remove the fuse from the plastic holder by screwing the screws.

4) Reinsert your new fuse, which way it goes in it doesn't really matter as such. Tighten the screws down to prevent it from further movement.
