How To Setup Car Audio Crossovers For Both Subwoofer & Door Speakers For Better Sound

best examples of crossover settings for a car audio amplifier

In order to ensure that your car audio system installed into your car sounds its best at all times, we say it is always essential to setup the crossover points properly. This is because you want the different parts of your system to play the right frequencies. You don't want your subwoofer to play vocals and you certainly don't low subwoofer bass coming from your front mids and high speakers. This will cause distortion on the front speakers more quickly, since they are not designed to play low bass that is around 30HZ or below. Most of the time these days aftermarket stereos come with an built in LPF and HPF to stop unwanted frequencies going to the wrong speakers. You can also install a separate active or passive crossover to ensure perfection for the ultimate sound quality setup. We tend to setup the crossovers directly on the amplifier as it works the best. Its quick and you might as well make the most of the features that the amp has already on board. There is no point of setting a crossover on your car stereo and on the amplifier at the same time because it will filter out the sound too much causing problems with getting balanced SQ results.

Now if you have an amplifier for your mids and highs and a separate one for your car subwoofer, you will need to setup them both accordingly. These are the crossover settings we always use that are the best examples that are out there for best sound.

Bass amp

1) Turn on the LPF (LOW PASS FILTER) there should be a switch on it.

2) There will be a turnable dial that you can adjust using a flat head screwdriver. The best crossover setting for this is 80HZ. This means that it will play only bass anything below 80HZ which is deep bass that is low perfect for any kind of subwoofer whether its a 10 or 15 inch.

Mids and highs amp

1) Turn on the HPF (High Pass Filter) there will be a flickable switch to turn it on.

2) Using a flat head screwdriver set this to around 80-100 HZ depending on how you like the mid bass sound coming from the front. This will play anything just above the subwoofer frequency level, so that your front speakers only play treble vocals and not bass that the sub is responsible for.

Setting up your crossovers correctly in your car audio system will clean up the sound. It will reduce the distortion and will make the different components connected play more efficiently resulting in better sound with spending money.
