If you have installed a car subwoofer into your trunk and you notice a popping noise when you are turning on your cars ignition, this happens due to rapid changing voltage offsets in the pre amplifier internal circuit board. There can be many reasons for this to happen, it can be due to have cheap or faulty RCA cables or a bad ground. Just because your car amp turns on doesn't mean that the ground location is the best. Left over paint or particles can cause problems with the actual copper stands of the wire to make contact with the cars metal chassis. If this happens it can a rise in the impedance coming from the electrical current that circulates around the car. So the best way is relook the ground spot to see if you can improve it.
1) Remove the negative terminal from the car battery. This will make your car safe to work on and prevent you from creating a short and frying your car amp.
2) Now that you are ready to work on your car audio installation, find the black ground wire terminal on the amp and follow were it is leading to.
3) Remove bolt that is holding the ground to the cars chassis followed by taking of the ground wire.
4) Get some fine grit sandpaper and smooth down the area of the current grounding location. This will certainly ensure that the ground wire will make proper clean contact with the cars metal as it will remove any rust or paint.
5) Place the ground wire back on and reattach the bolt back onto the screw.
