How To Tell If your Car AMP is Blown?

If your bass subwoofer has stopped working, the first thing you are going to assume is that your car amplifier is blown. Most of the time this is not the case, the RCA cables or in fact the speaker wires connected to the sub could have become detached due to the vibrations. If you still are not getting any kind of sound to come out from your amplifier installed into your car audio system, dont assume that the car amp is blown just yet. Its recommended that you use these provide troubleshooting tips to help you identify if your car amplifier is blown or not.

1) Check if the car amplifier is in the protection mode. If the car amp suspects something is wrong somewhere it will place itself into protect mode to prevent any further electrical damage. This can happen if the speaker wires are shorting out touching each other or if the ohm load impedance is way too low below the rated specs from the factory that it is designed for. Either way it will automatically cut itself out at high or low volumes.

2) Check that the blue remote wire is connected properly. This tells the amp when to turn on when you power on the CD player. If its not connected or to the wrong wire, the car amplifier will simply not switch on at all. So check that its connected to a blue wire from the stereos wiring harness and that its providing voltage.

3) Check if the fuse is blown. If the power light is not coming on, assuming that you have checked the 12 volt line with a multimeter, the fuse on the power wire or on the amp could be blown out. This could happen if there was a short circuit when you played your music at some point. Best thing to actually do is remove both fuses examine them carefully and check if they tiny metal wire inside is snapped. If it is then you will need to replace it because thats the reason why your car amplifier is not powering on at all the fuse has gone bad.

If you have tried the above and the car amplifier still wont turn on at all, you can come to a final conclusion that its blown out. This could be simply due to many reasons such as cheap build quality or unoticed overheating issues occured. You will need to replace it with the manufacturer so check if its got any warranty left or perhaps get it repaired from a car amp technican locally if you want to save yourself some money.
