How To Properly Tune a Car Subwoofer For Best Sound Quality

If you want to accomplish the best possible sound quality in your car with a subwoofer added to your sound system, you want to properly tune the settings on the amplifier. There are many different aspects you can change to the frequencies to clean up the sound and get rid of any distortion. You may require a flat head screwdriver to allow you to make adjustments to the rotational dials.

Gain. This is used to match the incoming voltage from the RCA cables provide by the CD player into your car amp. The correct way would be to use a multimeter tool, however you can also use your ears since its the quickest method.

The best recommend way would be to turn down the gain completely down on the amp. Then insert a bass test CD, play a 40HZ frequency, turn down any equalizer enhancements on your stereo and place the volume full before distortion. Then go back to your car amplifier, gradually increase it and stop when you hear any distorted bass, backing it down slightly.

LPF. This filters out any frequencies beyond a certain point. Since you are tuning your car subwoofer, you don't want to send anything more than 80Hz. This is because anything higher that is past this point is the door speakers responsibility. So set it either at 60HZ or 80HZ depending on your liking based on the particular type of music you generally listen to on a daily basis.

Bass Boost. This can be used to make the bass louder at a certain frequency. It can be adjusted, so if you want more boomy bass then increase it. But please be aware that this will increase the distortion and clipping levels far more quicker, perhaps making a sacrifice from loudness over a sound quality system.
