How To Fix No Bass From Car Subwoofer Or Speakers

amp on no bass from subs

A car subwoofer is installed into a trunk to add more bass. If for some reason you are getting no bass from your car subwoofer or speakers, you will not be able to listen to your music provided by your car stereo. Now having no sound from your car subwoofer can have many possible causes in terms of the subs move but there is no bass. There are even some cases when the subwoofers are not working but the amp still has power. We have created a very helpful and easy to understand guide for helping you fix your subwoofer that is not playing bass and make it bump again.

car amp power wire

Check if the car amplifier is getting power:

This can be done by starting up your car and locating the power led on the actual amp itself. If its green and lit up then its getting power and it being off you are aware that having no power to your car amp is the cause. This can be related to many problems, including blown fuse, bad ground or power wire connection or remote wire not connected.

car amp protection light on

Car amp goes into protection mode

This is an internal circuit that places the car amp into protect mode. The reason why this can happen is because of a short for example the speaker wires could be touching each other or the final ohm impedance load is too low for the amp to handle. Check to see if your car amp is in protect mode by checking the protect light.

rca cables car amp
Bad or disconnected RCA Cables

These are what feed music into the amp, they are small leads with headphone looking plugs on the both ends. If they are gone bad or loose which is a strong possibility from the strong bass vibrations created, the amp is on but there will be no bass so basically no sound from the car subwoofer. So my advice is to recheck the RCA leads and make sure they are connected into the 'Sub Out' on the car stereo and 'Sub Input' on the car amp.

speaker wire terminal cup

Speaker wire disconnected

Insecure connections made to the terminal cup and the screws on the amp can cause no bass to play from your car subwoofer even though the car amp is working fine and powered on. If the connection looks fine from the box to the amp, its also good to remove the sub from the enclosure and check that the wire that goes inside the box to the back of the terminal cup has not come off. We have seen many customers return their sub boxes after 6 months because the installer never soldered the connection on and instead used time effective insulation tape. This can cause problems because it can come off from bass vibrations and heat created by the magnet and voice coil overtime.

Blown subwoofer

If you have overpowered your car subwoofer for long peroids of time or sent a bad distorted clipped signal, you potentially damaged the voice coil. This is the copper looking windy thing that you see placed in the middle of the magnet if you look closely inside the outer basket. The only thing you can do at this stage is recone the sub if its worth a few bucks or throw it in the nearest bin. Next time be careful and tune the gain accordingly and make sure the rms output the car amp produces is the same as whats rated for the speaker.
