How To Remove Subwoofer Dust Cap From Cone

To replace the dust cap on your subwoofer, firstly you will need to remove the current one. Removing the dust cap on your subwoofer can become a tricky procedure depending on how it is stuck on. Most of the time there is glue place around the outer edge of the dust cap. The two things you will require for the removal process is a small knife and a heat gun. Applying direct heat onto the middle area of the cone were the dust cap is glued in place will help soften up the glue. Also ensure that you don't leave the speaker in a dusty location while the dust cap is removed for a long period of time. This is because dust can get into the voice coil, which is why its placed there to prevent this from happening.

1) Place the subwoofer down onto a flat surface such as a table.

2) Turn on the heat gun and warm up the middle area of the cone were the dust cap is placed. Do this for around 30 seconds.

3) Get the small knife and get in between glue holding the dust cap in place. Once you have got into it, while holding the knife in place twist the speaker around in the anticlockwise direction. This will perform an accurate cut around the dust cap detaching it from the speaker cone. Be extremely careful when doing this, one slip and you could tear through the actual cone of the speaker damaging it.

4) Once the dust cap is removed from the subwoofer, you are now ready to fit on your replacement.
