How To Remove & Disconnect Tweeter From Coaxial Speakers

remove tweeter from coaxial speaker

A coaxial type of speaker has a integrated tweeter positioned in the middle to provide a easier and much more convenient install. This allows a coaxial speaker with a tweeter to work in a 2 way setup. What some people in fact do is hook up extra tweeters to coaxial speakers to increase more treble but sometimes this can sound like a bees nest. You might want to remove and disconnect the tweeters from the coaxial speakers in your car if you are having fitting issues or want to mount it separately for better sound stage.
1) Remove the door card, disconnect the speaker wire on the terminals and remove it.

2) Look at the bottom of the magnet on the coaxial speaker and carefully peel the sticker back that tells you the watts power handing slightly half way  There should be a small screw found in the middle area that holds the tweeter in place. Get a screwdriver and remove the screw to remove the tweeter from the speaker.

3) Once you have unscrewed the bottom screw holding the tweeter in place, there is glue that will be holding it in place on the plastic polepiece. What you need to do is give the tweeter a slight knock with a rubber mallet hammer so that it comes off from the mount.

4) Once the tweeter is removed from the coaxial speaker, you will need to use a small wire cutter to snip off the two wires that go into the voice coil.
