In order for a car amplifier to operate it needs power coming from a 12 volt source. In car audio the car battery is the main supply of power. If you notice that your car amp is not getting any power, the lights don't come on and there is no sound coming from your speakers or subwoofers, its very rare that the internals have gone bad. Most of the time it can be a simple thing such as a blown fuse or a loose wire that can cause this kind of common problem. If you get no power light on your car amp, its not getting any power so it won't turn on anymore, use these instructions to help you with fixing this.
Some useful troubleshooting tips that should help you out:
1) First thing is to check the fuses. Now there are two fuses on a car amp, one located on the red color power wire and the other on the car amp itself. Remove them both from the fuse holders and hold them up. Have a look in the middle, if the wire is broken inside or looks burnt out then it will need replacing. If you have checked both car fuses, then move onto the second troubleshooting step in this constructed guide to help you further.
2) The remote wire might not be connected. We have seen some amp install in the past that have just the speaker, power and ground attached and forget about the blue remote wire. This is very important because this controls and tells the amp to come on and off. If its not connected then it won't turn on because the car stereo can't send out the turn on signal. So please ensure that the blue remote wire is connected.
3) Ensure that all wires are securely connected. If either the power, remote or ground wire are loose or not connected properly, it will cause a weak electrical connection to occur. Go over the terminals with a screwdriver and tighten up each screw to ensure that they are firmly fitted in.
4) Weak ground location. This is basically the short thick black wire that you connect to a new or existing bolt found underneath the carpets. This in most cases is not sufficient enough to power on a car amp. What you will need to do is getting something like a metal file or a electrical sander and smooth down the area were you want to mount it. Since there could be left of paint that can cause an interruption with the ground.
(If you have done all the above and everything is connected properly, then in most cases the car amp you are using has gone bad. So you will either need to repair it or get it replaced)
