How To Bridge a 4 Channel Car Amp To 1 Sub

how to bridge a 4 channel amp to 1 sub

Now 4 channel amplifiers in car audio are really designed for mids and highs door speakers to provide power to the front and rear. If you want to connect a 4 channel amp to 1 subwoofer that is possible if your car amp has an Low Pass Filter on it. Now you might have come across the term bridging alot in car audio. Basically what it means is when you take two channels jumper them with each other to add the power outputs from both side together. For example if you have a 4 channel amp that has 2 channels front rated at 150 RMS each, then bridging them together will give you more power at a total output of 300 watts rms. Now bridging a 4 channel amp is possible to power up one subwoofer, you just have to bridge 2 channels together.

1) Power off your car amplifier to stop any shorts or sparks occurring when removing the speaker wires. If you don't you chould blow a fuse.

2) Get a screwdriver and unscrew the - terminal from the left channel and the + terminal from the right channel. Just enough so that you can slip the wire in, you don't want the screws coming off completely.

3) Unstrip about 2 cm of insulation of the speaker wires if they are already not prepared to go in. Now place the negative speaker wire into the terminal labelled as - on the left channel and the other positive speaker wire into the + terminal found on the right channel.
